Kitchen Bereavement Committee

This group of dedicated women is led by Ms. Corean Williams and seeks to lend a continuity to what we do when a beloved church member transitions to glory.  This group serves a delicious meal and takes care of whatever is necessary to send extra food to the homes of the families.  This group ensures that each member is equally important in how we give in this final way to one of our own.

Marriage Enrichment

Married Couples are the core of our family as planned by God.  As we work together as couples to do what He desires sometimes there are obstacles, sometimes it is difficult but we know that this is all a part of the eternal idea.  We learn together, we play together whether it be a bowling outing a Bible Study or a Valentines Dinner Dance we know that we can and should continue to grow together to bring God’s Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.  This group is led by Stefani and Richard Carter and has a very strong planning committee.  If you would like to be a part or just participate in an event please stay tuned for Ministry events.

Men’s Fellowship

The group for all of the Men of Second Baptist. From golf, to Super Bowl party to intense Bible study on a Friday evening led by our Pastor the Men of Second Baptist are determined to seek God’s Will for their lives and for their input into the community.  The focus as with all ministries is Ministry, Education and Fellowship and is led under the capable leadership of Mr. Richard Carter.  Talk to Mr. Carter and meet with the men on the 4th Friday of each month for planning, fellowship and bonding.

Nurses Guild

The Nurses presence and visibility each Sunday gives a sense of comfort to the congregation. This ministry is open to all who are interested in promoting healthy lifestyles for the Mind, Body and Soul. They meet every second Saturday 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Our participation in community outreach influencing and educating the public adds a spiritual dimension to this Ministry. “Peace Be Still” Mark 4:39-40.

Older Adult Ministry

Ms. Linnie Philpot leads this group of seasoned saints in the church that is charged with brining education and fellowship to our senior members.  The group starting age is 55 and meets together for a quarterly luncheon where valuable information is shared.  Topics include, Medicare, Health issues, Retirement money, School Board Concerns etc.  It is the one time too that many home bound or even Nursing Home residents are helped to come together and it is always a joy to see “old buddies” at fellowship in this manner.

  • College Outreach  University of Michigan

  • College Outreach Eastern Michigan University

  • Media Ministry

The media ministry is seeking to allow God's Word to permeate the airwaves and to also be the vessel through which God allows the sick and shut-in and those who have yet to experience the wonder working power of God's Holy Word. The Ministry has also made the good news available to members who have moved or gone off to school.

Tapes and CD's are currently available for $5 each for current and previous services for a two month period. Past services may be purchased for a larger fee depending on how old they are and their availability. Soon to come we expect God to allow us to move into video and television. This ministry is lead by Deacon Robert Thompson whose vision it was with our Pastor Emeritus over 16 years ago.

Sound Ministry

This Ministry is one ministry in the church that everyone enjoys. The ability to hear the singing, and enjoy the Word is of utmost importance.  The Technicians in the Sound Room are led by Mr. Kendall Tucker and they range in age from teens to older adults. • Social Concerns

Social Concerns Ministry

One of the newest ministries that has been started at Second Baptist and is very much a part of the vision that God has placed on the heart of our Pastor.  The Pastor is preparing its direction and bringing it into fullness so that it will have an impact on the community and greater Metropolitan area and even on the world.  This ministry will move into the political arena and into the schools and into business and into any area where the church needs to go in order to not just express concern but to advise in accordance with how the church knows God would have things to be.  We look forward to much community involvement from this ministry under the capable direction of Dr. Ronald Woods.

  • Personal Growth

Personal Growth Ministry

The ministry’s focus is to create an environment such that the Second Baptist Church membership becomes, and remains, acclimated into the life of the Church.  We envision Second Baptist as a spiritual body whose members serve Jesus Christ together, and build up one another in the Lord. In so doing, our faith can increase, personal (spiritual) growth can be achieved, and God will be glorified.

Personal Growth Ministry members endeavor, as their privilege and responsibility, to: (1) Foster Fellowship amongst the Second Baptist Church membership through ministry events such as the New Members Dinner, Annual Church Picnic, and the Tribal System; and (2) Encourage members to participate in the life of our church (Bible study, ministry involvement), so that they may receive instruction and edification through God’s people and God’s Word (1Cor 12, Heb. 10: 22-25).

  • Human Services

The Human Services ministry of Second Baptist Church feeds over 30 families each week.

  • Mission Outreach

Pastor's Aid

The Pastor’s Aid is an invaluable group of women who are dedicated to serving God by assisting the Overseer placed by Him. Their leader, Ms. Katie Hall always says, “Yes, we can do it!”  Their functions are many and varied.  One might find them preparing the lavish meal for the Pastor’s Anniversary or being the link in the fellowship at a New Member Dinner but this group may simply check in with the Pastor to make sure his robe is in order for the delivery of God’s Word.  They are in fact, the Pastor’s favorite auxiliary!

Praise Dancers

Joyful Children's of Praise

Radical Praise

Essence of Praise

Progressive Club

The oldest auxiliary in our church led by President Pattie Perry.  This group at one time worked to assist in purchases that were needed in the church such as the chair lift and the commercial refrigerator.  As God has grown the church these monies while not necessary for this type of item still do become a part of the church to be used to provide a necessary item for some areas.  The most recent purchase of a steam table was a convenient asset during the Anniversary Meal given for the Pastor..
